Objectives
This course is designed to introduce anyone interested in exploring the art of DJing a social tango event. It covers important aspects of the genre’s history to better understand the parameters used in milongas and practices both in Buenos Aires and outside Argentina. It will also be an open space for anyone who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of tango orchestras and the music generally used in milongas.
We will discuss the basic elements of a typical tango orchestra and how to understand its sound. A deep dive will be taken into the “Four Greats”: Troilo, Pugliese, Di Sarli, and D’Arienzo, with a specific module dedicated to each orchestra. We will also explore key aspects of other orchestras included in milonga playlists.
We will talk about important points to consider when creating tandas (music sets), the use of cortinas (transitional music), and key aspects of managing the energy flow at a milonga event.
A special module will be dedicated to discussing recommended DJing software and sound equalization.
